My Ramblings On

The Phillies, without Jimmy Rollins?

J-Roll

When @HighCheese originally started tweeting about the Phillies meeting with Aramis Ramirez, I immediately understood his arrival in Philadelphia would most likely mean they were moving on from Jimmy Rollins. My kneejerk reaction was to brush it aside, because I can't imagine this Phillies team without J-Roll, their swagger.

However, after reading through his blog at philly.com, my thoughts began to change. With no Jimmy Rollins, but Aramis Ramirez instead, the Phillies lineup actually looked like it had some balance. After seeing an unbalanced lineup for so long, I seem to have forgotten how powerful a solid - balanced - line could be. I still don't know how I would feel about losing Jimmy, and watching opening day without him on the roster would hurt. However, the addition of Aramis Ramirez is something that would definitely help make the transition a little smoother.

EDIT 12/07/11: The Phillies have announced they are bringing Jimmy Rollins back for 3 years plus a 4th year vesting option, for a good price. While the thought of Aramis Ramirez coming to Philadelphia was intriguing/exciting, I'm glad to see Rollins will be given the opportunity to retire with the Phillies. Playing your entire career with one organization is rare these days. Welcome back, Jimmy!
